The municipality of Burgistein (BE) has taken an important step towards modern, efficient administration with the introduction of the digital administration platform from Swiss Post Digital Government. The focus is on the goal of mapping everyday administrative processes digitally from end to end and reducing the workload of employees and members of the authorities in the long term.

Initial situation and challenge

Before the digital switchover, Burgistein worked with a previous system that caused increasing dissatisfaction in the administration. It lacked user-friendliness and new employees often had to be painstakingly trained in the software. They also wanted a solution that was widely used in the region. This is because new employees are more likely to already have experience with the platform and the onboarding effort is reduced.

Two points were also key for the municipality during the evaluation: simple and intuitive operation and an attractive cost-benefit ratio.

The solution

The decision was made in favor of the integrated administration software from Swiss Post Digital Government. Thanks to its widespread use in the region and positive references from surrounding municipalities, Burgistein was able to rely on a tried-and-tested solution. The familiar deployment scenarios and the positive experiences of other municipalities already played an important role during the evaluation.

The introduction was structured: training was carried out directly on the municipality's real data in a practical manner, and employees were able to familiarize themselves with the new digital processes step by step. Swiss Post Digital Government supported Burgistein throughout the entire process, from evaluation and introduction to follow-up support.

Benefits and advantages

The introduction of the Swiss Post Digital Government solution has increased efficiency in day-to-day administration thanks to the user-friendly, intuitive interface. Thanks to the uniform system landscape and the distribution of the solution in the region, Burgistein also benefits from easier onboarding of new employees. Electronic access to files and documents has also been simplified so that municipal councillors can view documents at any time, regardless of their location.

Overall, the digital solution creates an administrative basis that makes day-to-day work noticeably easier, conserves resources and at the same time creates space for strategic tasks in the municipal administration.
